I've been fasinated by ectotherms as long as I can remember and kept crayfish (and other "crusties"), off and on since the 1940s, with varying success... Back at it now a little with my first Marmo, named "Gomi". I've had her for about a month. She has yet to reproduce...(I'm in no rush). she's about 2" long and growing.
I'm a bit surprised to see she seems to have made the connection between me and feeding...comes out and approaches me from her side of the glass when I look in. I'm used to such behaviour from my turtles, frogs and newts, but was a bit surprised to see it from an invert. Have you observed such responses also?...would love to hear about any other indications of intellegence in crusties that you've noted... :D - Don
The first thing I noticed and love about Crayfish is they have so much personality and awareness. Mine all come running up to the front of the tank when they are hungry or they come at me with waving pinching claws trying to scare me away. Even my little Dwarf Orange Crays get an attitude and try and be tough toward me. Most of my adults know when they see me its feeding time and they go crazy !!! I absolutely love Crayfish.
